1. HOW DOES THE HUNGER AND HEALTH COALITION WORK?

In order to be a client for our food assistance programs, the client must provide a photo I.D. and proof of a Watauga County address. To qualify for our pharmacy services, the client must provide proof of income (i.e. W-2, paycheck, etc.). For the pharmacy services, clients may live in Watauga, Ashe or Avery County. 

2. WHAT TYPES OF FOOD AND OTHER PRODUCTS ARE PROVIDED?

In our food boxes, clients can expect canned goods, pantry items, cereal, pasta, frozen meat, and dairy products. Our Food Recovery Kitchen provides to-go meals prepared from local restaurants. Our Fresh Market also provides our clients with fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and baked goods.

Our Pharmacy provides clients with life-sustaining medications (i.e. inhalers, insulin, COPD medications, Hepatitis C medication, anti-anxiety, anti-depressants, antibiotics, and many more). Our Pharmacy does not carry controlled substances.

The agency provides firewood for heating and cooking.

3. DOES THE HUNGER AND HEALTH COALITION HAVE ANY RESOURCES FOR PETS?

Yes! The Hunger and Health Coalition partners with the Watauga County Humane Society to provide pet food for our clients' furry friends.

4. CAN I GET ASSISTANCE IF I AM NOT FROM WATAUGA COUNTY?

Currently, our food assistance services only assist Watauga County residents.

Our Pharmacy assists those from Watauga, Ashe or Avery County.

5. HOW CAN I MAKE A DONATION?

The Hunger and Health Coalition accepts donations of all kinds! For monetary donations, you can send a check through the mail to our office (P.O. Box 1837 Boone, NC 28607) or click the "Donate" button or tab to make a secure electronic donation. We also accept donations of non-perishable food items at our office.

6. WHAT CAN I DONATE?

We accept donations of food, unopened medications, and prescription medication bottles. Donors can drop the items off at our office or schedule a pick-up time at their earliest convenience.

 

Of course, the Hunger and Health Coalition will accept donations of funds, time, and advocacy as well!

7. IS MY DONATION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Yes! Once the donation arrives, a staff member or volunteer will fill out and present the donor with a tax receipt that includes the items donated and the estimated value of the donations.

8. CAN I MAKE A DONATION IN HONOR OR MEMORY OF SOMEONE?

Yes! The Hunger and Health Coalition will make any size donation in memory or honor of the donor's choice.
