About the Role
The Food Access Assistant plays a crucial role in food rescue and recovery operations in the Food Recovery Kitchen as well as providing essential support at the intersection of the Fresh Market operations. This role helps to process and distribute recovered food from grocery stores and contributes to reducing food waste and increasing food security in the community. Assist in maintaining smooth operations of the Fresh Market, ensuring that food is processed efficiently and that clients receive fresh and nutritious produce.
Primary Responsibilities
Fresh Market Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup, organization, and maintenance of the Fresh Market
- Assist with receiving and processing food donations
- Help maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the Fresh Market
- Prepare daily produce boxes under the Fresh Market Coordinator’s guidance
- Assist in task giving to volunteers in the Fresh Market
Food Recovery Primary Responsibilities
- Properly sort, evaluate, and process recovered food items according to safety guidelines
- Help maintain accurate records of food quantities, sources, and condition
- Collaborate with volunteers
- Help organize and maintain food storage areas and equipment
- Assist with food safety monitoring and quality control
- Run meal baskets from the kitchen to the front
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Exceptional communication and customer service skills
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift 25 - 50 pounds frequently
Experience in an industrial kitchen
Preferred
Experience in retail, food programs, or customer service
Familiarity with inventory management practices
Experience with database management systems
Food safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent)
Working Conditions
Full-time hourly position
Regular lifting and physical activity required
Combination of hands-on kitchen operations and hands-on market operations
Reports to the Director of Food Access
Direct collaboration with the Food Recovery Coordinator and Fresh Market Coordinator
Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $36,000 - $38,000 annually
- Health insurance with stipend up to $400 monthly
- 10 days PTO, 6 days sick leave, 12 paid holidays
- 3% retirement match after 1 year
